Havering Cyclists meet on a regular basis with Havering council to build on the promises from our 2012 campaign with new ideas and projects. Our main focus at the moment is to improve safe and quiet cycling routes between the major centres and facilities across our borough. Although we have received no funding from the Mayor of London to implement Quietways within Havering we take every opportunity to do so, so that Havering cyclists can safely cycle across the borough. We also work closely with Sustrans and the Forestry Commission to continually maintain and improve leisure routes across the borough.

Space for Cycling

Our Space for Cycling campaign, with the help of thousands of Londoners, called on every candidate in the 2014 local council elections in London to support one specific action to create safe Space for Cycling in their local area. We’re now following up with those councillors to ensure they’re delivering on their promises. Find out more about Space for Cycling.

End Lorry Danger

We’re calling on the Mayor of London to End Lorry Danger. All but one of the cycling fatalities in the first half of 2015 involved a lorry. We want the Mayor of London to get lethal lorries off London’s roads and thanks to our Sign for Cycling campaign, the current Mayor, Sadiq Khan has committed to make Direct Vision lorries the only type used in London by 2020.

2012 Mayoral promises

During our Love London, Go Dutch mayoral election campaign in 2012, we secured a commitment from the Mayor of London to make our streets more liveable for everyone by making them as safe and inviting for cycling as they are in Holland. In March 2013, the Mayor, Boris Johnson published his ‘Vision for Cycling’ – what we believe to be one of the most ambitious plans to promote cycling ever produced by a major UK political leader. We campaigned hard to ensure that Boris Johnson delivered on his promises and were thrilled to join him on his last day in office in May 2016 to officially open the flagship North-South and East-West Cycle Superhighways – a direct result of LCC’s campaigning work. We will continue to work with the new Mayor, Sadiq Khan to ensure the good work continues. Find out more.
